Conor McGregor, the famous Irish boxer, has just been found guilty in a civil lawsuit related to the attack on Nikita Hand at a hotel in Dublin in December 2018. According to the jury’s verdict, McGregor must pay the victim 248,603 euros (about 6.5 billion VND).

During the eight-day trial, McGregor denied all accusations, asserting that the relationship between him and Ms. Hand was completely consensual. However, the plaintiff’s evidence, including bruises and testimony from a doctor, convinced the jury that the assault had indeed occurred.

McGregor’s friend James Lawrence was also charged in the case, but was found not guilty.

McGregor’s fiancée Dee Devlin was visibly upset as she left the courthouse after the verdict. She cried as she walked away, while McGregor remained silent, walking quietly through the media.

Nikita Hand, after winning the case, expressed her deep gratitude to her family, friends and legal team who have stood by her for the past four years.

She said emotionally: “I hope my story serves as a reminder that all victims have a voice, and that justice will be served. This is not just for me, but for my daughter, Freya, and every young person in the world.”

Why McGregor Won’t Go to Jail

Although he was found guilty, McGregor will not face jail time because this is a civil case, not a criminal one. Irish law allows for the identities of the parties in a civil case to be made public, but jail time only applies if there is a verdict in a criminal case. The Irish public prosecutor had previously declined to pursue criminal charges due to a lack of convincing evidence.

After the trial, McGregor announced on social media that he would appeal the decision, arguing that the jury did not have the full weight of evidence that the prosecutor had assessed.

Conor McGregor, a former two-division UFC champion, now faces significant damage to his image and career. However, the case is a wake-up call, emphasizing the responsibility of sports stars to the public and the law.
