Lewis Hamilton claims Max Verstappen must “act like a world champion” amidst increasing pressure

Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton are the fiercest rivals on the F1 grid. The two world champions went head to head in 2021 with the former emerging victorious. Since then, Verstappen had a rather comfortable stint in F1. However, things have changed for the Dutchman this year and now Hamilton has shared some advice for his arch-rival.

The reigning world champion has gone winless for three races for the first time in three years. Moreover, Max Verstappen failed to hide his frustrations at the Hungarian GP when he blamed the team’s strategy calls for his poor result.

Lewis Hamilton highlighted that Max Verstappen needs to become a team leader at Red Bull and not just a team member. The seven-time world champion emphasized that the Dutchman must keep in mind that he’s the teammate of hundreds of personnel at Milton Keynes. Moreover, Hamilton urged Verstappen to act like a world champion.

Max Verstappen had a disastrous outing at the Hungaroring last weekend. A poor race strategy forced the reigning world champion down the order. The Dutch driver even ended up colliding with Lewis Hamilton, which the Briton deemed as a racing incident after the race.

Lewis Hamilton was asked what he meant by the phrase ‘act like a world champion’ by the media. The seven-time world champion gave a blunt response, stating that it was not like how Verstappen acted at the Hungarian GP. Things will change at Red Bull, with Max Verstappen agreeing to no longer do late night sim races before a Grand Prix.
