Lewis Hamilton celebrating his victory at the 2024 British Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton ended his two-year-long winless streak by clinching the top podium spot at the 2024 British Grand Prix. After Lewis’ win, his father, Anthony, opened up about the seven-time Formula 1 champion’s difficult period since the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
With good strategic calls from Mercedes-AMG’s pit wall, Hamilton was able to dominate at Silverstone against the likes of McLaren’s Lando Norris and Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen. The British racing legend got emotional after crossing the chequered flag. The moment he got out of the W15 race car in Parc Ferme, Hamilton gave a tight hug to his father, Anthony. Fans praised the moment on social media.
During the post-race interaction with Will Buxton and Jolyon Palmer, Anthony opened up about the difficult period of over 940 days since the title-deciding 2021 Abu Dhabi race. The latter spoke about how he stood firmly behind his multiple-world champion son during his hour of need and reminded him of his capabilities from time to time.

“It’s been two and a half years since that impossibly difficult moment in Abu Dhabi. How hard has it been for the seven-time world champion, the driver with the most wins in history to consistently pick himself back up?” questioned Buxton. (0.26 seconds onward)
“The thing is, you know, I know Lewis obviously, and as far as I’m concerned. He’s still got everything that he needs a bit to run at the top and sometimes you just need reminding about that,” Anthony said in response (0:57 seconds onward).
This interaction showcased the bond between the Hamilton father-son duo.
Here’s a brief look at Lewis Hamilton’s 2024 Formula 1 season with Mercedes-AMG so far.
Despite facing trouble with the W14 race car last year, Lewis Hamilton finished the 2023 season in third place. Despite all the challenges, the seven-time Formula 1 champion began the 2024 season with a positive outlook.
Hamilton finished the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix in seventh place. The results in the next four races were largely similar, with ninth-place finishes in Saudi Arabia, Japan, and China and a DNF in Australia due to reliability issues.
Results improved after Mercedes-AMG implemented a minor upgrade ahead of the Miami GP. These upgrades saw Hamilton move up the ladder by finishing sixth in Miami and Emilia Romagna, and seventh in Monaco. Witnessing the positive feedback, the German outfit prepared critical updates for the Canadian Grand Prix.
With new aero components in place, Hamilton was able to maximize the result in Canada, Spain, and Austria, ending the races in fourth, third, and fourth, respectively.
At his home GP at Silverstone, Hamilton claimed his 104th career win, ending the drought of about 945 days since his last win in Saudi Arabia in 2021. As of now, the legendary British driver has amassed 110 points and is standing in eighth place in the driver’s championship.
