During a Vogue interview in September 2023, Angelina Jolie, 48, discussed her daughter, Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt, 18. The actress revealed how her daughter, whom she adopted in 2005 at seven months old, struggled with finding clothing that suited her dark skin tone.

Angelina shared how the Ethiopian-born teenager’s issue was considered when the star launched her Atelier Jolie fashion brand. Zahara suggested that her mother add different shades to the collection, which the actress admired.

For instance, a range that includes a silk slip dress is designed in various nude shades due to her daughter’s input. The mother of six confessed that she hadn’t been aware of Zahara’s fashion struggles until they started going shopping together. Speaking to Vogue, the star revealed why she’d missed the issue by stating:

“Obviously, as a white woman, I’ve never had this experience.”

She admitted how it never crossed her mind until she saw how much space there was for improvement. Facebook users who saw a Daily Mail article about the actress’s cluelessness over her daughter’s struggles had much to say.

One person rolled their eyes, noting how what Zahara went through wasn’t worthy of being called a “heartbreaking struggle,” while someone else defined it as:

“The struggles of being rich.”

Another reader mocked the mother-daughter pair, saying they hoped Angelina’s stylist would step in to “help save Zahara” from her “heartbreaking plight before it’s too late!” Despite the negative responses, Angelina showed in the past that she is interested in learning from her daughter.

Besides Zahara, Angelina shares five more children with her ex-husband, Brad Pitt.
