Cristiano Ronaldo storms down tunnel and doesn’t pick up his medal as Al Nassr lose Saudi Super Cup final

Cristiano Ronaldo was not a happy man as Al Nassr missed out on the chance to win the Saudi Super Cup final.

The Portuguese superstar and his team lost 4-1 to fierce rivals Al Hilal, meaning that their season has got off to the worst possible start.

Clearly distraught by the defeat, Ronaldo didn’t even stick around on the pitch to pick up his runner up medal, instead making a swift move down the tunnel and back to the dressing room.

The occasion got off to an ideal start as far as the 39-year-old is concerned with Ronaldo finding the net shortly before half-time to put Al-Nassr ahead.

It was also something of a landmark goal for Ronaldo, who took his career tally to 897 – meaning that he’s now just three away from an incredible 900 career goals.

Things fell apart for Al Nassr during the second half of the contest.

Sergej Milinokovic-Savic drew the game level after 55 minutes, before Aleksandar Mitrovic scored twice in six minutes to put Al Hilal firmly in control.

Things then got even worse when Brazilian winger Malcom made it 4-1 to Al Hilal – rounding off a frantic 17-minute spell that saw them score four times.

As you’d expect, Ronaldo wasn’t impressed and could be seen doing a sleep gesture to his teammates as he tried to wake them up from their second half slumber.

However, it wasn’t enough with Ronaldo’s side powerless to avoid defeat.

While defeat in the Saudi Super Cup will be a blow, all focus for Al Nassr will be on the Saudi Pro League.

Having failed to win it since 2019 and finishing as runners up in each of Ronaldo’s two seasons with the club, the Portuguese superstar will be desperate to go one better this time around.

But after finishing 14 points behind Al Hilal last term, there’s significant ground to make up over the upcoming campaign.

Ronaldo and Al Nassr get their new league season underway on Thursday, August 22 when they face Al-Raed.

As it stands, this will be the 38-year-old’s final season with Al Nassr with his current contract due to expire in the summer of 2025.

However talkSPORT understands that talks have been planned over a 12-month extension to that deal with Ronaldo open to extending his stay.

Incredibly, that would mean the Portuguese star staying at the club until the age of 41.

The Saudi Pro League are increasingly trying to attract more players in their prime from European leagues.

The Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) recently offered a £1billion deal to Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr.

That would effectively match his salary with Ronaldo’s.
