Cardi B admits crippling anxiety left her ‘afraid’ to release music or even post pictures

Cardi B candidly shared how she lost herself due to fear of criticism and was “afraid to do everything”.

The Bodak Yellow rapper is currently promoting her long-awaited second album, but confessed there was a time when another album seemed out of reach as Cardi battled with anxiety over her music. During an interview with Speedy Norman on 360 With Speedy, the mother-of-two revealed she was “afraid” to release new music last year, and admitted she avoided social media because she was “tired” of being criticised.

“I just feel like I lost myself like with everything like, you know like a lot of like music commenters and everything and a lot of people just be like, you know, ‘She’s afraid to drop an album, she’s afraid to drop music,’” the 31-year-old explained. “Like last year, I barely dropped music. It’s just like I was just afraid to do everything.”

Cardi revealed she hasn’t taken a break from posting on social media since she was catapulted to worldwide fame back in 2015, and admitted she was so exhausted she avoided sharing online over fears she would be slammed by her fans and followers. “I was afraid to go live, I was afraid to post a picture, I was afraid to go to the club, and then the next day seeing people, what they going to say about me, and everything. I was afraid to do everything,” she sadly shared. “I love talking about politics and everything. I don’t even want to talk about it anymore because I’m just so afraid of just getting dragged every single f***ing day like I’m tired.”

The rapper, who parted ways with husband Offset in December last year, also revealed that she recorded a remix of the Ice Spice song Munch but decided not to release it because she “didn’t like” how she sounded on the track. “I did do a thing for Ice Spice, but I just did not like how it sound. I love the record, I did not like how I sound. You know it being on a drill beat, it’s not as easy as it look… I was like, ‘They’re gonna drag me and they’re going to drag the song bad,’” Cardi confessed.

The rapper, who shares daughter Kulture and son Wave with her estranged husband, apologised to her fans earlier this morning for “losing myself” over the last few months as she struggled with her mental health. “I want to apologise to my fans. To my fans, to myself, and to the people that love me for losing myself… Just losing myself and not being myself because of negative things that put me in a wall,” she said during an Instagram Live. “I want to apologise if you ever felt that like, I wasn’t giving my all because of things. I’m just a f***ing human b****, I’m trying to do this s***. You know what I’m saying? I’m trying.”
