F1 fans did not hold back on their comments regarding the battle between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton during the 2024 Hungarian GP on Sunday. The two rivals found each other battling for the final podium place in the race with the Red Bull driver chasing his old nemesis on new tires.

The three-time world champion was visibly frustrated with the strategy calls which left him in P4 behind Hamilton after the latter undercut him in the pitstops. However, in the last few laps of the race, the Dutch driver saw an opportunity to make the pass on Lewis Hamilton but failed to execute the pass.

Verstappen went airborne after touching his rear wheels with the Mercedes driver’s wheels and lost his chance to get the P3 slo, which eventually went to the seven-time world champion.

Lewis Hamilton gives his take on his incident with Max Verstappen

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton stated that the battle with Max Verstappen was ‘hair-raising’ but concluded that it was ‘motor racing’.

As per Sky Sports, the 39-year-old said:

“Obviously the close battle we had at the end was a bit hair-raising, but that’s motor racing. It’s not nerve-wracking. When you see the pace at which they closed the gap in certain corners, you just laugh to yourself because it’s not something I can do.

“I saw him coming from a long way back and he was able to brake a lot later than me, but he sent it up the inside, I stayed still, and he clipped the wheel and went over. I think a racing incident.”

Max Verstappen eventually came home to finish P5 at the end of the race. With Hamilton’s 200th podium in F1, he has moved ahead of his teammate George Russell and Sergio Perez in the Driver’s Championship to P6 behind Oscar Piastri.
