The longtime collaborators feud over “TIDAL-Apple bullshit”
Kanye West has apparently had a falling out with his “Big Brother”.
Three times during his concert in Seattle on Wednesday night, Kanye stopped the show to call out
his longtime partner, Jay Z. The first instance occurred mid-way through his performance of “Pop
Style”. The track was originally supposed to be a collaboration between Kanye, Jay Z, and Drake,
but only Drake was featured on the version appearing on Views. As Kanye explained, Jay Z
scrapped the collaboration “because of some TIDAL-Apple bullshit.”
“I wasn’t on this song because of Hov. You didn’t get what you were supposed to get because of
some TIDAL-Apple bullshit.”
He went on to recount the making of the song, saying, “I start freestyling to it. Jay thought of a couple lines … I said, ‘Man go ahead and throw it on there. [Drake] will be so surprised, he probably wasn’t expecting you to be on there.’ We sent it back to him and he said, ‘Oh shit, the Throne is on this shit.’”
Kanye continued, “Then Jay thought of it and out of respect for Meek Mill, he didn’t want to be on the track.” (Meek Mill, a longtime rival of Drake, is signed to Jay Z’s Roc Nation). Kanye offered to call Drake and Mill to squash the beef, “but then out of that paranoid, it went into TIDAL, some political shit, some shit about percentages on songs.”
“I can’t take this shit, bro,” Kanye exclaimed, adding that his and Jay Z’s kids “never even play together.” He also said there “will never be a Watch the Throne 2.”
Later, he chided Jay Z for failing to reach out in the wake of Kim Kardashian’s armed robbery last month. “Don’t call me, after the robbery, and say ‘how you feelin?’ You wanna know how I’m feelin? Come by the house.”
He also skipped “Niggas in Paris” instead opting for “Can’t Tell Me Nothing”.
This is not the first time Kanye has publicly griped about the “beef” between the Jay Z-owned TIDAL and Apple, which he believes is “fucking up the music game.” West, who himself is a co-owner of TIDAL, tweeted back in June, “Fuck all this dick swinging contest. We all gon be dead in 100 Years. Let the kids have the music.” Based on the events of last night, it doesn’t seem like things have gotten any better.
