The 2024 British GP weekend was full of chaos. However, amidst all that was happening, home hero, Lewis Hamilton, won the race ending his 56-race streak of not standing on the top step of the podium. To witness this achievement, Hamilton’s parents were at the venue and congratulated their son for the feat that he had achieved. Subsequently, the Mercedes driver admitted that witnessing his whole family at the event, including his father, Anthony Hamilton, and mother, Carmen Larbalestier, was a great feeling for him.

Since his childhood, Lewis Hamilton has witnessed setbacks and managed to overcome them. His parents separated when he was just a two-year-old boy and lived with his mother till the age of 12. He then moved to stay with his father and stepmother, who helped him in his junior racing career. After all such struggles, the Brit triumphed over them all and exhibited his ‘never give up’ attitude at the British GP as he won the race for a record-setting ninth time.

Hamilton acknowledged the presence of his whole family being there and claimed it to be incredible for him.

I've had them here this weekend. We all try to be there for each other, even at a distance. I know I've always had their support, but to be able to see them there and share this experience, they wanted to be at my last race, the last British Grand Prix with this team that have been so incredible to us. I mean, Mercedes obviously supported me since I was 13. So it's definitely meant the most today to have them there and to be able to share it with them.

After winning the race, the Mercedes driver was seen hugging his mother, Carmen Larbalestier. He then hugged his father, Anthony Hamilton, who let him have his moment in an emotional interaction between father and son. Later, he claimed that witnessing his family being there for him at such an important moment in his life was huge for him.

Lewis Hamilton optimistic for Mercedes’ revival

On the other end, the German marque has won two races in succession. Both of their drivers have been putting the W15 throught the wringer to extract every single bit of performance, which has catapulted Mercedes closer to the top.

The former world champion admitted that Mercedes is now in the mix.

There's still a long, long way to go, but we are super close, and I think hopefully with the next upgrade perhaps, we[Mercedes] will be in an even stronger position to really, really be fighting for the front row more consistently.

Hamilton was realistic and claimed that there was still a long way to go. However, with a few more upgrade packages, they could be in the hunt for the top spots and fight for the front row consistently.

Despite Hamilton winning the race, he is bound to move to Ferrari next year. Moreover, the Maranello-based team is currently going through a rough patch, which may push the Brit to question his decision to move to the Italian squad as Mercedes surprisingly, seems to have found their groove.
