A luxury west London flat in the same block as the home of Princess Diana before she married Prince Charles has hit the market for £2.2 million.

The stunning property is part of a Victorian mansion conversion situated in upmarket Coleherne Court in South Kensington.

The block is where the Princess of Wales lived between 1979 and 1981, during which years she began dating Prince Charles and spent ‘the happiest time of her life’.

She left in February 1981, reportedly moving into Clarence House the night before her engagement to the Prince of Wales was officially announced.

The property for sale has three bedrooms – one with an ensuite – a big reception room and even a guest cloakroom.

The flat is being sold by estate agents McKee & Co and is going for £2.2 million.

Meanwhile, Princess Diana paid just £50,000 for her apartment in the block back in 1979.

She purchased the place at just 18 years old after inheriting money from her American great-grandmother.

The soon-to-be princess lived with three friends who paid her £18 a week rent at the time.

Diana described her years at the property as ‘the happiest time of her life’, according to Andrew Morton’s book Diana, In Her Own Words.

HELLO! reported that the princess was believed to have furnished the rooms into a ‘warm but simple Habitat style that was popular at the time’.

She also reportedly organised a strict cleaning rota between herself and her flatmates. According to Mr Morton, Diana’s flatmate Carolyn Bartholomew said, ‘She always had the rubber gloves on as she clucked about the place.

Ms Bartholomew added: ‘But it was her house and when it is your own you are incredibly proud of it.’

After her wedding to Charles in July 1981, the princess’ mother reportedly sold the flat for £100,000, double the price Diana had originally paid – but still a lot less than the price of the property currently for sale in the same block.

Diana was honoured with a blue English Heritage plaque at the building in September last year. Former flatmate, Virginia Clarke, helped unveil it during the ceremony.

Ms Clarke revealed at the ceremony that young Diana and her teenage flatmates were advised to check under their cars for bombs outside the flat after she started dating Prince Charles.

In 1998, Diana’s flat in the block was on the market for £450,000,while another five-bed property in the same block sold for £4.2 million in February 2019.
