Meghan Markle paid tribute to her late mother-in-law Princess Diana as she attended an event in New York to mark World Mental Health Day.

The Duchess of Sussex was joined by her husband Prince Harry as they hosted the Archewell Foundation Parents’ Summit. During their visit, the couple also attended The Marcy Lab School, which is a partner of The Archewell Foundation.

Meghan and Harry were all smiles as they posed for pictures with students at the school. The former Suits actress decided to wear a casual outfit during their trip, opting for a pair of black jeans and a fitted black top. But it’s her jacket which has caught the eye of fans, with many believing it was inspired by Diana.

Meghan rocked a blue and white varsity jacket, similar to one Diana wore in the 1980s and 1990s. The Princess of Wales was pictured on a number of occasions wearing a green Philadelphia Eagles varsity jacket.

Diana was gifted her custom-made varsity jacket by Jack Edelstein, a statistician and spotter for the Eagles radio network. After receiving it, she sent Edelstein “a very nice note” about “how she’d been wearing it around.”

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share side-by-side pictures of Meghan and Diana in their jackets, one fan posted a quote from Harry as he praised Meghan for being similar to his mother. “So much of what Meghan is and how she is is so similar to my mum,” they wrote.

Harry made the comments during the Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan. He added: “She has the same compassion, the same empathy, she has the same confidence, she has this warmth about her.”

Meghan’s outfit choice also had another sweet connection. Taking to Twitter, journalist Omid Scobie confirmed the outfit choice in a “fun fact” writing: “Meghan’s varsity letterman jacket was given to her by the debate team at the Robert Clack School in Essex, England during her March 2020 visit.”

Commenting on his post, one user said how thrilled the school kids in Essex will be with her choice, writing: “The Robert Clack school children’s will be so happy that in this special day Meghan remember them,” with another gleefully adding: “This is so thoughtful.” A third said: “Love that little detail.”
