When will the Princess Diana memorial statue be unveiled?

The Princess Diana statue will be unveiled at 2pm on Thursday, July 1 – which would have been the late Princess’ 60th birthday.

It was commissioned by her sons in 2017 to “recognise her positive impact in the United Kingdom and around the world”.

The coronavirus pandemic meant the event was delayed – but has fallen nicely on the Princess’s birthday.

Where will the statue be placed?

It will be unveiled on the grounds of Kensington Palace.

It will be installed at the Sunken Gardens, which was believed to be Diana’s favourite spot on the Kensington Palace grounds.

The garden is also home to monuments of King William III and Queen Victoria.

The statue will be in place for the public to view from Friday, July 2.

Will Princes Harry and William attend the unveiling?

William and Harry are said to have called a truce for the unveiling of the statue as they will both be present.

The feuding brothers are communicating by “minimal” texts amid their bitter fallout.

But they are determined to show the utmost respect by pledging a truce on what would have been the late Princess’s 60th birthday.

The Princes will leave Kensington Palace together, walk to the statue then deliver their own speeches.

Sadly, sources say there has been no reconciliation since Harry and wife Meghan trashed the Royal Family in their explosive Oprah Winfrey interview in March 2021. In fact, they are further apart than ever.

This will be the first time since Prince Philip’s funeral that the brothers have been together.

Sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley, garden designer, Pip Morrison, and close family of Diana will also attend the unveiling.

Can I go and see the statue?

Kensington Palace Gardens are open to the public and you do not need a ticket to enter them

The Sunken Garden, where the statue is placed, was re-planted in white flowers in 2017 to let visitors reflect and celebrate the life of Princess Diana.

The garden has a central ornamental pond and ahead of the statue unveiling waterlilies have been reintroduced for the first time since the Princess was in residence.

In a statement, the princes said: “”Our mother touched so many lives.

“We hope the statue will help all those who visit Kensington Palace to reflect on her life and her legacy.”
