Tyson Fury issues seven-day ultimatum for Oleksandr Usyk unification fight or will remain retired

Tyson Fury has issued a seven-day ultimatum for his promoters to make the huge heavyweight unification fight with Oleksandr Usyk.

Immediately after Usyk beat Anthony Joshua for a second time, the Gypsy King reacted in typical fashion on social media, calling for the cheque book to come out as he confirmed he is not retired from boxing.

Fury vs Usyk for all the heavyweight belts is the fight everyone wants to see next but the 34-year-old has said all parties involved, including Frank Warren and Bob Arum, must come up with the money before 1 September.

In a video in his Instagram page, he also stated the offer must be officially submitted to his lawyer, or else Fury will stay retired.

Speaking to his fans while out running, the WBC world heavyweight champion said: “Hi guys, for all those suitors out there who wanted to make the fight, I’m gonna give you all seven days – till the 1 September, to come up with the money.

“If not, thank you very much it’s been a blast. I’m retired. And also guys, forgot to say, all the offers submitted must be to my lawyer Robert Davies, in writing and with proof of funds. Let the games begin.”

Fury last fought in April, knocking out fellow Brit Dillian Whyte at a sold-out Wembley Stadium. Not for the first time, Fury announced his retirement from fighting afterwards.

“I think this is it, this might be the final curtain for ‘The Gypsy King’,” Fury said after his 32nd professional victory.

“What a way to go out.”

He did recently relinquish the Ring magazine belt, which became vacant before Usyk claimed the vacant title on Saturday night in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The Ukrainian did call out Fury and said he was sure he had not actually hung up his gloves for good.

Rumours have been swirling of a superfight happening in Saudi Arabia on 17 December, a day before the World Cup final.
