McLaren CEO Zak Brown has shared his thoughts on Red Bull driver Sergio Perez‘s underperforming spell in Formula One. Perez has amassed only 11 points in the past five races, despite starting on a convincing note for the Milton-Keynes outfit.

Sergio Perez‘s struggles have been prevalent since the previous season, with the Mexican driver failing to register a win since the 2023 Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The 34-year-old’s difficult run has cost Red Bull valuable points in the championship, and they now fall prey to second-placed in-form McLaren in the title race.

Zak Brown has therefore claimed that McLaren is catching up to Red Bull in the championship and benefiting from the poor performances of Perez. Brown has also asserted that if the Papayas had been able to score during the start of the year as they are currently doing, Red Bull would have been well within the reach of the Woking-based team.

Sergio underperforming is what's opening the window for us. I think if we have the same points gained we've had the last six races, the balance of the year, we'd get the job done. So we're fully aware of it.

Sergio Perez hence finds himself in a position of scrutiny and jeopardy amidst an unconvincing spell on track. The upcoming races in Budapest and Spa will prove to be perhaps the most important tests for the Mexican in deciding his future on the grid.

Christian Horner yet to close the door on Red Bull move for Yuki Tsunoda

Red Bull team principal, Christian Horner has always been aware of the qualities of RB driver, Yuki Tsunoda, who has been on an improving spell. Horner has, however, not closed the door on a speculative move for the Japanese driver in the near future in light of his impressive performances on the grid.

You can never rule anything out. We have options for multiple years on him because we believe he's a talent.

Yuki Tsunoda has been on good form for RB this season, scoring 20 points for the team, which has compelled RB to offer the talented Japanese a new multi-year contract. But the 24-year-old has since conveyed his desire to race for Red Bull, who currently lead the championship by 71 points.

Christian Horner has thereafter taken note of Tsunoda’s improving form and said that the latter is is currently a Red Bull driver under a Red Bull contract. Horner has therefore asserted that if Tsunoda continues to perform and improve under RB, a future for him with th senior team might be possible, as his efforts and performances will not go unnoticed.
