Canelo Alvarez is ready to face McGregor in a historic match
Boxing superstar Alvarez (Mexico), who is considered the most expensive boxer on the planet thanks to a $350 million contract with DAZN (2018-2023), has just revealed the possibility of competing with “Madman” Conor McGregor, the world’s top UFC star in 2025.
This could be one of the most anticipated matches in the history of the rivalry between the two sports of boxing and MMA.
Canelo, who currently holds the WBA, WBC and WBO super middleweight titles, has an impressive winning streak against the likes of Jermell Charlo, Gennady Golovkin and Caleb Plant.
Meanwhile, McGregor is aiming to return to the UFC in early 2025, after recovering from a foot injury suffered in his 2021 fight with Dustin Poirier.
In a recent interview, when asked about the possibility of fighting McGregor, Canelo confidently said: “Why not? I will prove that boxing is superior to MMA. The money is easy, I can knock him out in one to three rounds, depending on what I want.”
This statement further heated up the atmosphere between the two stars, when McGregor teased Canelo about his bonus demands for a potential fight with David Benavidez, an opponent who Canelo said would only fight if he was paid $200 million.
Although McGregor was scheduled to return to the ring at UFC 303 against Michael Chandler, he had to withdraw due to injury. According to Dana White, UFC President, McGregor will return in 2025, after a thorough recovery and preparation.
Meanwhile, Canelo Alvarez is focusing on his title defense against Edgar Berlanga on Mexican Independence Day in Las Vegas (USA). Berlanga, a young boxer with a 22-fight winning record, is expected to be a big challenge for the Mexican boxing champion.
Although both fighters are busy with their own plans, a match between Canelo and McGregor in 2025 can be considered. This will be a highly anticipated event for both boxing and MMA.
