Prince William and Kate Middleton celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary on Thursday.

To mark the occasion, Kensington Palace released two new photos of the happy couple – the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

The pair tied the knot at Westminster Abbey in a televised ceremony watched by an estimated two billion people around the world.

Both photographs were taken at Kensington Palace this week by Chris Floyd, with the duchess sporting a dress by Ghost.

In the decade since their big day William, second-in-line to the throne after his father, and Kate have had three children – George, seven, Charlotte, five, and Louis, three.

But some eagle-eyed followers of the Kensington Royal Instagram account spotted one detail that has sparked debate –

Why isn’t Prince William wearing a wedding ring?

As it turns out, Prince William has never worn a wedding ring.

According to the Daily Star, The Duke of Cambridge discussed his decision with Kate before their Westminister Abbey nuptials in 2011 and his future wife had no qualms about it.

A Palace insider said at the time: “He’s not one for jewellery. He’s never worn any. He decided he didn’t want to wear one now. It’s all down to personal preference.

“It was something the couple discussed but Prince William… doesn’t even wear a signet ring – and decided he didn’t want to.”

Prince William is not the only royal not to wear a wedding band.

His grandfather Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, 99, spent more than 70 years with a bare hand while married to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

However, William’s father Prince Charles has chosen to wear a ring in both of his marriages. He wears it underneath a signet ring on his little finger.

Prince Harry also wears a simple platinum band on his left hand, made by the Cleave and Company, the same jeweller behind Meghan Markle’s engagement ring.
