Lando Norris declared he wouldn’t change a thing about how he battled Max Verstappen in Austria – despite the collision which ended his race.
The McLaren star expects more blockbuster battles with his Red Bull rival in the future, starting this weekend at Silverstone. Norris heads into his home race full of belief he can beat Verstappen, having flustered the Dutchman last Sunday to the point he caused a crash which gave them both punctures.
And he can’t wait to pile the pressure on his rival again, this time with the full support of the Silverstone crowd behind him. “I’m very excited for the British Grand Prix,” he said on the Chris Moyles Show.
“But yeah, at the same time I reviewed everything, we’ve gone over stuff, and let’s say I won’t really change what I did. I was fighting, and that’s what we want – we want to fight.
“We don’t want to complain, we don’t want things to end like they did, both from Max’s side and from my side. So, that’s life sometimes. We’re fighting, we both want to win and we’re going to push it to the limits – some slightly more than others. But yeah, at the same time, I’m excited. We’re going to have more fights together, and I look forward to those times.”
Norris will be one of three Britons heading into the race full of belief that he can deliver the result the home crowd desperately craves. That costly fight with Verstappen for the lead at the Red Bull Ring paved the way for George Russell to win an F1 race for only the second time in his career.
And Mercedes chief Toto Wolff is adamant that his other driver, Lewis Hamilton, can win again before he leaves for Ferrari at the end of the year. The seven-time F1 champion’s victory drought stretches back to December 2021 and, despite finishing fourth in Austria, he felt he had been “pretty shocking” over the course of the weekend.

But if he can get back to his best form anywhere, it’s at Silverstone. This weekend will mark Hamilton’s 18th participation in the British GP and holds the record for the most number of victories by a single driver with eight.
He is also in the midst of a remarkable streak of 10 consecutive podium finishes, which he has maintained despite Mercedes’ struggles over the last two seasons. Hamilton won every British GP between 2014 and 2021, except for one, when Sebastian Vettel beat him to the chequered flag by two seconds in 2018.
He finished third in 2022 and repeated the feat last year, joining Norris and Verstappen on the podium. Wolff said of his team’s chances: “On track, the battle at the front is tight. We will have to be at our best to challenge for the podium once again. That is our aim, though, and we are excited for the challenge.”
