As per a social media post shared by Oscar Piastri, he sustained a fractured rib last month and has been recovering for a month now. The McLaren driver in a recent social media post shared news of the incident amid the ongoing F1 summer break.
The post’s caption read:
“First part of the season done. First GP victory. First broken bone. Rib’s enjoying the break”

Sergio Perez dealt brutal verdict by young McLaren prospect
The report appears to be dated July 8, 2024, which was the day after the 2024 British Grand Prix. Given the date, it is highly likely that the Australian drove the Hungarian Grand Prix and the Belgian Grand Prix with a fractured rib.
Similar to Carlos Sainz’s appendix operation which was followed by victory at the Australian Grand Prix for the Australian, the fractured rib turned out to be a lucky charm for Piastri. The young Australian driver claimed his first ever Grand Prix win at Budapest, days after he fractured the rib.
However, McLaren’s questionable tactics threw a pall over Piastri’s victory. The team asked Lando Norris to give his place at the head of the race back to his teammate Piastri, perhaps changing the mood of the victory the young Aussie may have liked if he had won his first Grand Prix through racing and not team orders.
Nevertheless, with the victory, Piastri became the eighth-youngest GP winner in the history of the sport. He claimed the feat at the age of 23 years and three months. Besides the victory, Piastri has claimed four other podium places this season.
Constructors’ championship is the primary priority over an individual title, according to Oscar Piastri

Weeks after Lando Norris helped him secure his first-ever Grand Prix win, Oscar Piastri shared that McLaren prioritize winning the constructors’ championship over claiming the drivers’ title, for which Norris is a formidable contender at the moment.
“The first objective is to win the constructors’ for the team and I think we’ve got a very strong chance of doing that,” Piastri told Sky Sports. “We’ve been closing the gap to Red Bull in the last six or seven races.
“I think for me, the drivers’ standings, of course I’d like to finish as high as I can. I’m not not out of the running for the championship myself, it’s a very big ask, but I want to string together good races, build consistency on that front, and really help the team to win the constructors,'” he added.
Following the conclusion of the Belgian Grand Prix, McLaren trimmed their constructor’s championship gap to Red Bull to 42 points.
