Eminem released his new single Tobey on Wednesday and the lyrics have left fans speculating if he ‘took a shot’ at Jay-Z.

In the track, the rapper, 51, seemingly claims he ‘out rapped’ the hip-hop billionaire, 54, questioning his title as Billboard and Vibe’s Greatest Rapper of All Time.

Eminem came in at number 5 on the publication’s list, leading listeners to believe a line in Tobey must be a direct hit at Jay-Z.

Renegade, which features on Jay-Z’s 2001 album The Blueprint, saw the duo rap about their public disapproval, with fans famously saying he was ‘outshined’ by Eminem on his own song.

The duo have collaborated on four singles in total, their most recent being Syllables in 2010, however, it appears Eminem still hasn’t forgotten about his 2001 feat.

In Tobey he raps: ‘How rappers I’ve already ripped could be (What?) // Higher up on a list than me (Ha).’

Fans shared their thoughts on X, posting: ‘Did Eminem just take a shot at Jay-Z on his new song “Tobey”? “Aint feeling your top 5 favourite rappers so I know they bout to be p*ssed at me, but this to me is a mystery, how rappers I’ve already ripped could be higher up on a list than me?’

Others added: ‘Empire State Building bar right before the billboard list diss? Nah Eminem you ain’t slick… How we feelin bout a Eminem Vs Jay Z beef in 2024???’; ‘Noticed how Eminem dissed Jay Z with Empire State line and top 5 rappers list? To put it more in contrast, the track duration of #Tobey is exactly 4:44 and it refers to a Jay Z album lmao.’

‘Eminem claims he out-rapped Jay-Z on his own song Tobey’; ‘I did NOT expect to see Eminem throwing subliminal disses to Jay-Z in 2024, damn…’; ‘Pretty sure Eminem sneak dissed Jay-Z but I could be reading too far into it.’

‘Eminem has poked fun at the idea that Jay-Z is better than him for a long time… he did it on “Seduction” in 2010 too.. he used Jay-Z’s favourite “ah” adlib from the Blueprint 3 while doing it too. Eminem always knew he was a better rapper than Jay-Z.. and so did anyone with sense.’

On Monday, Eminem fans were left fuming after the rapper delayed the release of his new song Tobey.

The artist teased fans on Monday as he revealed his new single would be out at midnight.

But after disappointed fans waited up for hours to get a first listen of the song, it never even released.

Fans expressed their anger on X, formerly known as Twitter, and tagged the rapper’s social media to speak out.

Some comments read: ‘Me refreshing everything to see the Tobey song and realising Eminem hasn’t dropped it’

‘Eminem we’re waiting. It’s almost 4 here in the morning.’

‘Yo where the hell is your new single at man? We’re civilized boy stop moving like you kanye @Eminem’

‘WHERE TF IS TOBEY??????’

‘wait wasn’t eminem supposed to drop today’.

Eminem dissed his own children, Hailie Jade Scott, 28, Alaina Scott, 31 and Stevie Laine Scott, 22, in his latest track, Houdini, which was released last month.

While he may have called his kids, who he shares with ex-wife Kim Scott, ‘brats’ in the new song, the rapper’s brood didn’t seem to mind as all three appeared in the single’s music video.

In Houdini, the superstar jokingly took a swipe at Hailie, Alaina and Stevie in one eyebrow-raising verse.

‘F**k my own kids, they’re brats / They can screw off, them and you all / You too, Paul [his longtime manager Paul Rosenberg], got two balls, big as RuPaul’s,’ the Lose Yourself hitmaker raps.

Houdini is the first single off the 15-time Grammy winner’s upcoming album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce), which comes out this summer.

Are you excited for the release of Eminem’s new album?

Yes!
Nope
On the track, Eminem also takes aim at Megan Thee Stallion as he alludes to the 2020 incident, in which she was shot in the foot by rapper, Tory Lanez.

In one verse of Houdini, he asks: ‘If I was to ask for Megan Thee Stallion if she would collab with me, would I really have a shot at a feat?’

The backlash quickly ensued on social media, with fans condemning the Oscar winner for seemingly poking fun at Megan Thee Stallion’s ‘traumatic’ experience.

‘F*** this guy. Men love to bring up traumatic moments in women’s lives for attention. Leave Megan alone,’ posted a fan.

‘This is so random & disgusting did he think he ate or something?’ one wrote, as another chimed in, ‘This is such low hanging fruit. It’s so unbelievably pathetic.’

An X user shared: ‘Eminem’s career has largely been built on being shocking and provocative to certain audiences … Being 51 years old and taking shots at Megan Thee Stallion? Out of touch.’
