Jake Paul comfortably defeated boxing legend, Mike Tyson earlier this month.
âThe Problem Childâ added the name of Tyson to his boxing record when he defeated âIron Mikeâ on points at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
In a drab affair people noticed that Tyson appeared to bite his gloves which concerned Tony Bellew who believed he was in pain during the bout.
Others thought his mouthpiece was the problem and In the post-fight interview, he was asked: âWas it a mouthpiece issue, or were you just biting on your glove?â
Tyson replied: âI have a habit of biting my glove⌠I have a biting fixation.
Tysonâs former trainer Teddy Atlas gives his verdict on the biting.
âThereâs a lot of questions out there about the thumb biting,â Atlas said.
âMike Tyson biting his thumb through the glove. First of all, thatâs something that he did in his amateur days, he did in his pro days, and now, of course, he did it again.
âFor people that follow Mike Tyson, his career, theyâve seen it before. People were saying, âTysonâs smart, heâs witty. He knows what to say and the importance of having that image.â
âThatâs why he got all the money. It wasnât about what he had left at 58. It was about what he maybe might have and the image. The scary guy. The guy whoâs gonna eat your children, the guy whoâs the baddest man on the planet.
âWhen people asked Tyson about the biting, he knew what to say. Again, keep that image, keep that myth. Itâs important in these kinds of realms that they believe that heâs still the bogeyman.
ââWhy did you bite, Mike?â âIâve got a biting âfixationâ. In other words, so I didnât bite his ear. Just saying that is brilliant promotion for his brand for people to stay with that image. âOh my God, he bit his thumb so he wouldnât bite his ear offâ.
âBut itâs not that. Heâs done it before. Itâs more like a pacifier. Look, everyone gets nervous, doubtful, scared. Even Mike Tyson. It was more of a thing like a pacifier when a kidâs unsure. You bite down on something. Why? To suppress those feelings, suppress the doubt, the nervousness, the uneasiness, the insecurities. Thatâs what it is.â
