The duo sang Lambert’s “Kerosene” and “Sk8er Boi,” obviously

After flexing her country chops by covering Shania Twain at the ACM Awards last year, Avril Lavigne has once again traded her Converse for cowboy boots: the motherfucking princess made a surprise appearance at the Country Music Association’s annual summer festival, joining high-octane megastar Miranda Lambert to perform her song “Kerosene,” as well as “Sk8er Boi” (can I make it any more obvious?).

CMA Fest took up residency at Nashville’s Nissan Stadium over the weekend. Lambert’s Friday performance was star-studded, jamming three guest performers — “new bestie” Lavigne, of course, as well as recent duet partners Elle King and Leon Bridges — into a set of merely seven songs. She and Lavigne closed out the run with the hit title track from the country singer-songwriter’s 2005 debut album Kerosene, followed by the Canadian’s indelible Let Go banger.

He was a country boy / She said “Yeehaw!” never, boy… Okay, I’ll stop now. While some might see Lavigne and Lambert as an unlikely pairing of blonde ambition, as the former’s Twain cover reminded us, the Napanee native has rootsy roots. Eyeliner aside, she definitely doesn’t sound out of place on a Lambert track!

Watch the fringe-laden clips of their duet below.
