Kate Middleton is spreading the news about a new initiative related to her royal work supporting young children.
The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, which Princess Kate created in 2021, announced on July 25 that it was “delighted” about the launch of The Baby Bank Alliance. The new community unites over 300 baby banks across the U.K. to provide supplies to families in need.
The organization shared several photos on Instagram of Princess Kate, 42, visiting baby banks between 2022 and 2023. One snap was from an outing that took place before Christmas where the royal brought her three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. The image showed Kate and her daughter looking through items as they volunteered at the baby bank near their Windsor home, where George, 11, Charlotte, 9, and Louis, 6, joined their mom in sorting clothes, toys and essential goods for children and families.
“You can see how rewarding this kind of work is knowing you are helping out others,” Princess Kate said in a video from the outing, putting her arm around Prince George’s shoulder.
Footage from the visit was filled with adorable moments, from Prince Louis excitedly dubbing a gorilla toy as a “big guy” to Princess Charlotte laughing with delight as she saw a baby onesie decorated in Welsh flags.
The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood captioned the social media post, “Over the past few years, the Princess of Wales has visited several baby banks to highlight their crucial work in supporting families with babies and young children. Organizations like baby banks play a vital role in helping to give parents and carers the capacity to provide the nurturing care which is so important to babies and young children.”
“Today, we’re delighted to see the launch of The Baby Bank Alliance, a community of over 300 baby banks supporting families, babies and children in the U.K. with access to the supplies and clothing that they need to thrive,” it continued. “Our relationships, experiences, and surroundings in our earliest years lay the foundations that shape the rest of our lives. Supporting parents and carers, who are doing their best to provide for their families in incredibly challenging circumstances, is essential and can have a life-changing impact.”
Princess Kate’s team further circulated the news on social media via the official accounts she shares with Prince William. They reposted a video shared by the Baby Bank Alliance on X and also dedicated a slide on their Instagram Stories to the endeavor, resharing the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood’s post.
The Baby Bank Alliance shared their gratefulness to the royal, sharing a note on their Instagram Stories tagging Kate’s Instagram page that read, “Thank you for your support.”
The Baby Bank Alliance was founded by Save the Children, Purposeful Ventures, Baby Bank Network Bristol and Little Village, its website says.
Princess Kate’s support for the new venture aligns with her advocacy around the importance of childhood development, a keystone of her royal work.
The Princess of Wales established the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood within the larger Royal Foundation she shares with Prince William in June 2021 to raise awareness of the importance of the early years of life and advance outcomes for a brighter society.
To elevate this work, Princess Kate unveiled the “Shaping Us” campaign in January 2023. The Royal Foundation describes the initiative as “a major new awareness-raising campaign to increase public understanding of the crucial importance of the first five years of a child’s life.”

The Princess of Wales has been outside of the spotlight for most of this year after announcing in March that she is undergoing treatment for cancer. However, she has remained involved with her royal work, being briefed on the findings from the Royal Foundation Business Taskforce for Early Childhood’s landmark report in May and sharing in a June health update that she was “starting to do a little work from home.”
Her appearance at Wimbledon on July 14, her second public event of the year, was likely her last public outing before a quiet rest of the summer.
“Before, she used to live her life by the calendar, and now she is living her life, and the calendar comes in after,” Robert Jobson, author of the new book Catherine, the Princess of Wales: A Biography of the Future Queen, out Aug. 6, tells PEOPLE.
