Meghan Markle has paid a touching tribute to the late Princess Diana during her current tour of Colombia with Prince Harry. The Sussexes embarked on their four-day tour earlier this week, taking in the sights and sounds of the South American nation ahead of its participation in next year’s Invictus Games.

Upon arrival, they were warmly welcomed by Vice President Francia Marquez and had a packed itinerary on the first day, which included Meghan honouring local talent by wearing a dress designed by Colombian Johanna Ortiz. However, it was Meghan’s outfit choice on the second day that truly tugged at the heartstrings of Royal enthusiasts worldwide.

The 43 year old Duchess wore a pair of Princess Diana’s earrings while meeting school children at the Colegio La Giralda school in Santa Fe.

The subtle Butterfly studs added a touch of understated elegance to the trip, while also conveying a powerful and uplifting symbolism of shedding burdens, embracing freedom, and promoting themes of transformation, hope, and rebirth.

The playful accessories, previously donned by Princess Diana, were chosen by Meghan for a school visit, a poignant gesture given Diana’s pre-royal career as a primary school teacher in London before her marriage to King Charles in 1981.

The statue of Diana at Kensington Palace even reflects this, with the three children sculpted around her symbolising her passion for nurturing the young, reports the Mirror.

Diana was last seen wearing the stud earrings during a Canadian trip in May 1986, shortly after Prince Harry’s birth. She tragically passed away in a Paris car crash in 1997, with the anniversary of her death approaching in just two weeks.

While Meghan’s choice to wear the earrings in Colombia carries significant emotional weight, it isn’t the first time she’s worn the delightful accessory.

She first sported the unique earrings in October 2018, following the announcement of her pregnancy with Prince Archie, and again upon her return from maternity leave in 2019.
