Prince Harry’s alleged dig at the Duchess of Cambridge in his Netflix series was the “lowest of the low” for Prince William, it has been claimed.

Harry and Meghan Markle released a six-part docuseries on Netflix in December 2022, where they made several shocking revelations about their time as senior royals.

Both Prince William and King Charles were criticised in the series, with accusations of William “screaming and shouting” and Charles “lying” during a high-profile meeting.

However, according to a new book, it wasn’t the criticisms aimed at him that truly angered William, but those seemingly directed at Kate. In one of the early episodes, Harry suggested there is a tendency within the Royal Family to marry someone who “fits the mould”.

In the first episode of the Netflix documentary, he stated: “I think for so many people in the family, especially obviously the men, there can be a temptation or an urge to marry someone who would fit the mould as opposed to somebody who you perhaps are destined to be with.”

The Inside Story by Robert Hardman, which is being serialised in the Daily Mail, suggests friends of the Royal Family believed it was clear he was referring to William and Kate. One source told the author: “On top of all the other breaches of trust, here was Harry making a blatant attack on Catherine. For William, this was the lowest of the low.”

Several weeks after the release of Harry’s explosive memoir, Spare, it was revealed that he didn’t shy away from discussing Kate, sharing private details about a fallout between her and Meghan.

Royal commentator Jennie Bond, speaking to OK!, claimed that Kate felt deeply wounded and insulted by Harry and Meghan’s remarks, casting doubt on any quick resolution to their royal feud.

She said: “When you come from a happy, united family as Catherine does, it’s incredibly hard to understand how people can become estranged.”

Ms Bond also noted Kate’s initial optimism for reconciliation, particularly after the interactions post-Prince Philip’s funeral, saying: “I think she believed the rift could be fixed and, after Prince Philip’s funeral, we saw her talking with Harry and obviously encouraging William to do the same.

“But we now know that it didn’t work. In fact, William and Harry had a blazing row right after the funeral. There comes a point when you just have to accept that happy families are not a game that everyone can play.”

She added: “Catherine has been hurt and insulted by things that Harry and Meghan have said, but she and William are a very strong team, and I suspect that, together, they’ve come to the conclusion that the rift with Harry cannot be fixed in the foreseeable future. They’ve closed their minds to that possibility and decided to get on with their lives.”
