Michael, who passed away in 2009, first became acquainted with Diana, who died in 1997, while backstage at Wembley Stadium in London in 1988. Prince was born in February 1997 just months before Diana died in a car accident in Paris in August 1997. Prince shared that the pop star - whose biggest hits were Thriller and Bad - thought he had a lot in common with the popular princess. 'He just felt like, as he explained it to me, that he felt connected to her in a way that he didn't really have those connections with other people,' shared Prince.

And Michael had many high-profile friends including Elizabeth Taylor and Madonna. 'I think that, based off of what he was telling me, they kind of fed off each other in the sense that this love was communal, and he loved how she loved and he loved how she tried to be a great mom to her children and how she wanted to just be a good person,' said Prince. 'And I felt like there was just so much synergy there. And when he would speak about her it was with so much love, but also some sorrow because he had lost such a good friend.' Diana was killed in a car crash in Paris on August 31 1997. Michael passed 12 years later in 2009. Michael, cited as one of the most influential musicians thanks to his era-defining albums and live performances, died aged 50 following an overdose of the anesthetic propofol.

Speaking in a new documentary for Fox TV - 'TMZ Investigates: Who Really Killed Michael Jackson?' - Debbie got emotional as she said: 'I should have done something and I didn't. There is a number of people that died from addictions and in some way I was part of it.' Debbie previously worked as an assistant to Jackson's dermatologist Arnold Klein - who had provided the star with strong pain relief - and admitted she felt sorry for her part in the tragedy. She said: 'I was basically as bad as him (Klein) and I am so sorry I participated in it.'

Klein died in 2015 at the age of 70. Debbie and Jackson married in 1996 and she was the surrogate mother of his two eldest children, Prince and Paris. They'd previously met 15 years earlier while the singer was being treated for a skin condition. She rarely talks about her relationship with the star, which was shrouded in secrecy from the very start. During an appearance in 2003 TV ' Michael Jackson: The Footage You Were Never Meant To See,' Debbie spoke about her relationship with the kids - insisting she was determined to help the 'Thriller' star fulfill his dream of becoming a dad. She said: 'I did it for him to become a father, not for me to become a mother. You earn the title parent. I have done absolutely nothing to earn that title. That is because Michael did all the parenting. I didn't do it to be a mother. I didn't change diapers. I didn't get up in the middle of the night, even when I was there, Michael did it all.'
