“It was kind of weird shooting the video in the age of corona,” Cardi told i-D on Thursday. “Like, we had to spend $100,000 dollars just on testing. Everybody on the shoot had to get tested for coronavirus.”

“We had a tiger and a leopard there, but we didn’t film with them in there because of safety and because of the pandemic,” she added. “We spliced those scenes together.”

The WAP video – which has broken records and garnered over 26 million views in its first 24 hours on YouTube – also revealed an unfortunate incident with a snake, featured in the video.

“One of the scariest parts was the snake scene,” Cardi said. “I was naked and one of them peed all over me.”

The NSFW track and video, which features Megan Thee Stallion, and a controversial video cameo by Kylie Jenner, surprised Cardi by causing backlash.

“I’ve been really surprised by the reaction, honestly,” the Grammy winner explained to iD.

She continued: “I knew it was gonna have a big impact, I guess, because of me and Megan. But I didn’t know it was going to be so controversial. I never expected that, you know, conservatives and Republicans were going to be talking about the song.”

“I didn’t think the song was as vulgar as they said it was, you know? Like, I’m so used to it,” she continued. “I’m such a freak that I didn’t think it would be a big deal. I didn’t think people would think it was so out of this world…”

“It doesn’t make me angry,” Cardi added. “It makes me happy. They keep talking and the numbers keep going up. At the end of the day, whatever they’re saying, the numbers speak for themselves.”

The star – who The Sun revealed stayed at the London Hotel in Los Angeles after flying by private jet, during the pandemic, said that her regular schedule completely went out of the window during the pandemic.

“Everything has completely changed because of the pandemic,” Cardi told them.

“You know, I was constantly on the road, now I’m mostly at home with my baby. Everything that I had planned for this year has to be rescheduled for God knows when. So it’s just crazy, it’s a lot.”
