Anthony Joshua has completely bounced back after his devastating losses against Oleksandr Usyk. This is because the former two-time world champion focused on a steady approach to training and implementing a strategized game plan. Hence, AJ has paved the way for his redemption and has the chance to become a three-time world champion. Furthermore, his promoter, Eddie Hearn, has given a massive update about Joshua’s next fight.

Before the Joshua vs. Francis Ngannou fight, it was announced that Turki Alalshikh wanted the winner to fight the next undisputed heavyweight champion. Hence, Joshua was set to fight either Tyson Fury or Usyk after the undisputed clash on May 18. However, it was announced that they have a rematch clause, which complicated things. Hearn has now spoken about this in an interview and stated:

I would say that Anthony Joshua's next fight will be for the heavyweight championship, or for the undisputed heavyweight championship.

Matchroom Boxing’s chairman revealed that Joshua is expected to fight again soon. Hearn also stated that it might potentially be around the end of the summer or August. Furthermore, they eagerly await the conclusion of the Fury vs. Usyk fight. However, it appears that they might not wait for it.

Hence, if Fury and Usyk have a rematch after their first clash, Joshua will potentially fight the winner of Filip Hrgovic vs. Daniel Dubois. Joshua will likely fight for the IBF heavyweight title, or the boxing federation might ask for a mandatory defense. This implies that the IBF might strip the winner of Fury vs. Usyk and book a fight between the winner of Hrgovic vs. Dubois and Joshua. Either way, Joshua will get the chance to fight for a world title next.

Anthony Joshua is ranked as the No. 1 British heavyweight over Tyson Fury

Joshua’s stellar victory over Ngannou has earned him a title fight. Moreover, he has now again emerged at the top and was ranked as the number one British heavyweight, according to BoxRec. Many people found this controversial since Joshua was ranked above Fury, who still remains undefeated.

In Fury’s last fight, he struggled for ten rounds against Ngannou during his professional debut. The ‘Gypsy King’ did win the fight via a controversial split decision, but AJ was able to deal with Ngannou swiftly in the second round. The ranking was based on the fighter’s most recent performances instead of their professional career. Moreover, in twelve months, Joshua fought thrice and defeated all opponents via knockout. As such, BoxRec has put over Joshua over Tyson Fury.

One must note that the ranking would change if Fury manages to defeat Usyk in the undisputed title fight. Hence, the ranking might not last long as Fury attempts to become the undisputed heavyweight champion next month.
