The King wants to mend relations with Prince Harry but the Duke of Sussex might need to rethink some of his actions, according to reports.
The King is said to be “frustrated” by Harry’s actions
The rift between Prince Harry and the Royal Family continues but King Charles may be more receptive to mending relations than people think.
The King has reportedly not given up on his relationship with the prince but one thing stands in the way – Harry’s legal action with the government over his security detail.
The Duke of Sussex brought a case against the Home Office over the security arrangements for himself and his family when they are in the UK.
Harry contested the Home Office’s February 2020 decision that he should receive a different degree of protection when he returned to the UK after he quit his royal duties that same year.
In a revealing Sunday Times article to mark Harry’s 40th birthday in September, royal editor Roya Nikkhah reported that King Charles is said to have not given up on his relationship with Prince Harry, but finds it “frustrating” that Harry continues to fight the king’s government in court.
The King is also said to be avoiding speaking to him because he fears Harry will try to lobby him over the security issue.
Sources recently told The Daily Beast that Charles will not speak to Harry on the phone and that they believe the King should use his influence to get Harry upgraded U.K. security.
Prince Harry is seeking legal action against the government
Charles and other royals remain deeply mistrustful of Harry, the report says, citing a source as saying: “The problem for the king and other members of the family is the worry that if they have a chat with Harry, it will appear in Spare volume two. How do you regain the trust? I don’t think Harry ever can.”
The King reportedly sent an olive branch to Harry earlier on in the year when the Duke came to London to celebrate the anniversary of the Invictus Games.
But Prince Harry turned down King Charles’s offer to stay at Buckingham Palace when he last visited Britain and chose to stay at a hotel instead, it has been claimed.
While it had been already reported in May that the Duke of Sussex had been offered accommodation for his short trip to London, it had not been disclosed at the time that the monarch had allegedly given his younger son the chance to stay at the official royal residence in the capital, the most prestigious and famous among the properties in the royal portfolio.
