Comments are not open yet. We would like to host good conversations on NewsToday123, and we want to get the foundations right before we invite them. This page sets out the guidelines we plan to use and tells you how to reach us in the meantime.
Where things stand
There is currently no comment section and no community forum on the site. We will announce it in our newsletter and RSS feed if and when it opens. We are not able to say when that will be.
Community guidelines for future discussions
When discussion opens, we expect these guidelines to apply.
- Be kind and be curious. Disagree with ideas, not with people.
- Stay on topic. Keep comments relevant to the story.
- Be honest. Do not make claims you know to be false, and say where your information comes from if it matters.
- No harassment or hate. Abuse, threats and discrimination will be removed.
- Protect privacy. Do not post other people's personal information.
- No spam. Advertising and repeated promotion will be removed.
- No advice masquerading as expertise. Please do not offer medical, legal or financial advice to others as if it were fact.
Moderation
People will moderate the discussions. We plan to explain what we remove and why, and to offer a simple way to appeal. We will not remove comments just because they criticize us.
Send a letter to the editor
You can write to us now. Letters to the editor are a long tradition and a good way to respond to a story, offer a different view or add useful context.
How to send one
Email [email protected] with the subject line "Letter to the editor." Mention the story you are responding to.
What makes a good letter
- Short and focused, ideally a few paragraphs.
- Specific about what you are responding to.
- Civil in tone.
- Signed with your name, and where you live if you would like it printed.
What to expect
We cannot publish every letter, and we may shorten the ones we use for clarity. We will not publish a letter without your agreement. If your letter points out a mistake, we will treat it as a correction report, and you can also write to [email protected].

Why we are waiting
Good communities are built carefully. Opening comments before we have the people and the processes to run them well tends to produce noise instead of conversation. We would rather start late and keep it civil than start now and spend our time cleaning up.
